Efficiency Through Design
Small Core - Maximum Heat
It’s not the size of the firebox that determines the heat, but the efficiency of combustion. Our products optimize the energy yield of your fuel. We bring the heat into the room instead of heating the sky.
Efficiency beats nominal output: Old 14 kW devices are often “wood guzzlers” with an efficiency of only 50%. This means 7 kW immediately disappear unused up the chimney. Due to an efficiency of > 80%, our retrofit kits easily replace old large devices – with up to 30% less wood consumption.
The compact core of the STACHEL inserts ensures optimal thermals, maximum combustion heat, and highly efficient air circulation.
Wood as an energy source:
If you load the same amount of wood into one of our products as before, we generate the same energy – but utilize it better!
The result: Less soot, less wood consumption and a clean pane.
Stainless steel instead of filter ceramics:
Our materials are durable and low-maintenance. They are specially optimized for the thermal requirements of massive cast iron bodies. While conventional filters often clog or break, we optimize the combustion temperature directly at the source.

Measured Efficiency
In a 40-year-old fireplace insert
Permitted Limit Value
For existing single-room combustion systems,
installed before 2010-03-22:
150 mg/m³ dust / 4000 mg/m³ CO.
Measured with Stachel Retrofit Kits:
Stage 2 achieved in a 1985 old device!
29 mg/m³ dust / 1000 mg/m³ CO.
THREE PILLARS FOR EFFICIENT, ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY COMBUSTION:
through two flue gas deflections
through grate-free wood combustion
Soot reduction through optimized combustion chamber geometry
A Principle Proven for Centuries
Our Combustion Technology
The embers are covered with earth (or ash), thus interrupting the oxygen supply. Without oxygen, there is no combustion, leading to long-lasting embers.
This method, which has been practiced in nature for centuries to preserve embers for as long as possible, is implemented in our products.
Not only the price factor is an argument for heating with wood, but also the environmental balance. Unlike heating oil + natural gas and other fossil fuels, wood burns almost CO₂ neutral in its environmental balance.
However, various things must also be considered when burning such a noble raw material as wood to efficiently utilize its many advantages.
Ember Preservation According to the Principle of the Earth Pit Fire
We make a wood fire in an earth pit.
We let the fire burn down properly.
Once it has burned down, we cover it with earth. With Stachel products, the ash does this.
After 12 hours, we still see small pockets of embers.
Upon opening the earth pit, we find enough embers to grill sausages.
Our products are designed for wood and wood briquettes. Since wood does not require air supply from below for clean combustion, logs can be inserted directly and burned efficiently. Only a small amount of ash remains.

Legal Guarantee & Grandfathering
By installing the Stachel-Eco-Flam HBO / HSE-1, the firebox is technically brought up to the standard of the currently applicable immission control regulations (BImSchV Stage 2) and EcoDesign 2022.
Dear Colleague,
the HSE-1 / HBO system is an independent installation unit certified according to the latest European standard EN 16510 (SZU Brno test report).
This legally confirms:
1. The system has its own type approval and optimizes combustion values autonomously. It is not a structural alteration of the existing fireplace, but a technical upgrade with its own type approval.
2. Test location: The type test according to EN 16510 in the specialized laboratory replaces the individual test in the existing device on site. The standard confirms that the system reliably complies with the BImSchV Stage 2 limit values in all structurally identical or larger fireboxes.
3. The continued operation of your firebox is unequivocally secured by compliance with
BImSchV Stage 2.
By presenting the certificate and the test report,
conformity is proven.
Sincerely, Dr. h.c. Frank-Peter Stachel
